GRADUATE PROGRAMS
DOCTORAL PROGRAMS
Software Engineering
Students in the Ph.D.
program in software engineering prepare for leadership positions
in software-engineering --- as academic faculty and industrial R&D
scientists. Program requirements ensure that graduates receive an
education both broad and deep. Candidates develop a thorough understanding
of fundamental science, design and development issues, significant
research problems and results, the context of practical principles,
and pragmatic constraints imposed by economic and regulatory forces.
Students typically complete
eight, 12-unit courses over a two- to three-year period and demonstrate
proficiency in speaking, writing, programming, and teaching. The
doctoral dissertation, prepared and defended at the program's end,
constitutes a significant piece of original research in a specialized
area of Computer Science.
