Carnegie Mellon University helped define and continually redefines the field of computer science. Through its diverse
interdisciplinary
research activities and breadth of educational programs, the School of Computer Science leads the world in stretching the field by
extending into areas beyond the traditional boundaries of computer science. The School is recognized internationally for producing
first-rate researchers, academic colleagues, and industry leaders in the computing profession.
Computing technology plays a large and increasing role
in most areas of endeavor. Exploiting that power requires not only
proficiency in the concepts and skills of computer science, but
also competence in the area of application. Thus, in addition to
our doctoral programs, the School of Computer Science offers a plethora
of masters programs many jointly offered with other units at Carnegie
Mellon:
Computer
Assisted Language Learning
Distance Education

SCS faculty also serves on the advisory boards of two other
University master's programs: Computational Finance and Information
Networking. Half of these programs are very young, reflecting
the explosion of the computer science field and its influence in
and by other disciplines. These specialized and professional master's
programs prepare students to practice the application of computer
science at a high level, and to serve as technical leaders in their
organizations. Graduates from our master's programs approach the
challenges in today's workplace with new processes, state of the
art tools, and innovative vision.
