I was wondering what everyone uses for motors and where they
get them.

I know of three motor types. Small hobby motors, but they turn
too quickly and I have no supply of gears. Stepper motors but
these seem bulky and expensive (I am a poor student). I have
also heard of servo motors but I do not know what they are (I
would like to know).
Are one of the above motor types generally used? If so how?
How do you keep them from turning when you don't want them to?

Thanks in advance,
