Does anybody know what AAAI's or IEEE's (or SPIE's) attitude is to
such a thing? That is, would any of these organizations be willing to
sponsor a "Society" level type of group e.g., IEEE's Computer Society.
Perhaps an IEEE Mobile Robots Society or AAAI Mobile Robots Group?
However the problem with AAAI and IEEE is that they seem to cater more
to the academic types. SPIE's annual mobile robot conferences in
Boston seem to have a better mix between academic, government, and
industrial types. Its paper/abstract review process is very
accomodating towards those who need government clearance for public
presentation of their work.

I agree that NSRA nor AUVS is not doing a very good job even they do
represent the non-academic (i.e., industrial) R&D community pretty
well. However forming another body like AAMIR is just adding to
"disunity" problem. Perhaps we should work towards having all these
organizations unite under/merge to form/support an umbrella
organization.
