TEMPE, Ariz. (UPI) -- Stevin Smith nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer from halfcourt Saturday, giving Arizona State a 63-60 victory over 24th- rated California. Lamond Murray hit a pair of free throws with 4.2 seconds remaining to lift the Golden Bears into a 60-60 tie. But Smith grabbed the inbounds pass, dribbled to midcourt and hit a shot from his own side of the halfcourt stripe to win it. Ron Riley scored 21 points to lead the Sun Devils, who improved to 7- 5 overall and 2-1 in the Pacific 10. Murray topped California, 10-3, 3- 1, with 22 points and 13 rebounds. The victory was Arizona State's fourth straight over the Golden Bears at Tempe and snapped Cal's eight-game winning streak. The Bears led by as many as 12 points in the second half, but the Sun Devils used an 11-0 run to take a 56-52 lead on Smith's layup with 3:28 remaining. Monty Buckley answered with a 3-pointer and Murray hit a short jumper to put California ahead, 57-56, with 2:23 left. The lead changed hands twice before Murray's free throws tied it with 4.2 seconds to go. Cal's Jason Kidd was held to 7 points, but collected 10 assists and 11 rebounds before fouling out. Mario Bennett finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for ASU.
