Example formulations of analyses include effect systems, modified type systems with annotations of base (or arbitrary) types, modified type systems with annotations of type constructors, and axiomatizations of properties in logical form. The logical formulation of program analyses gives a clean separation between the specification of the analysis and its realisation. Furthermore, it opens up for the development of clever *algorithms* that may outperform straightforward implementations of model-based analyses. So far it seems that many of these algorithms involve collecting and solving constraints of various sorts. The purpose of this workshop is to focus attention on the use of constraints in program analysis. We would like to discuss - the use of constraints, annotated type systems, and effect systems in analysing properties of programming languages, - techniques for solving such constraints, in the presence of polymorphism and algebraic structure on the effects etc. The goal will be to determine the state-of-the-art of the subject. DATES Extended abstracts due January 28 Program February 2 Registration due February 4 Workshop February 17 (9.00 - 17.00) February 18 (9.00 - 16.00) The workshop is open for general attendance; attendants are expected to cover their own travel and local expenses. HOW TO PARTICIPATE If you would like to give a talk, please send an extended abstract (see the appropriate form at the end of this message) by e-mail to tamtoft@daimi.aau.dk no later than January 28. Your abstract should clearly state the relevance of the talk with respect to the theme of the workshop. (If you want to give a demonstration of software, please contact us no later than January 28.) The final programme of the workshop will be sent out February 2. If you would like to attend the workshop, fill in the appropriate form (at the bottom of this message) and send it by e-mail, no later than February 4. The workshop will be sponsored by the DART and LOMAPS projects; depending on the number of participants we may have to charge a registration fee covering lunches, coffee etc; the registration fee will be at most DKK 300. HOW TO GET TO DAIMI By plane: There are regular domestic flights from Copenhagen to Aarhus; also be aware of the direct flight between London and Aarhus. From the airport there runs a bus to the railway station (DKK 50). Going from the city to the airport, an airport bus leaves from the railway station 70 min. before each flight departure (ask the local people for how to board the bus near the university). By train: Every hour a train leaves from Copenhagen to Aarhus (4 1/2 hrs); there are also some daily connections from Hamburg to Aarhus (5 hrs). >From the railway station to DAIMI: It takes about 25 minutes to walk; alternatively take bus no. 4 (direction: Frydenlund) and leave at Ny Munkegade. The buses are yellow, you enter them at the back end and buy yourself a ticket from the dispensing machine (DKK 12,50). ACCOMMODATION We recommend the following hotel, which is situated next to the railway station (price pr. night: approximately DKK 400): Ansgar Missionshotel, Banegaardspladsen 14, 8000 Aarhus C, tel. (+45) 86 12 41 22 fax (+45) 86 20 29 04 Please make your reservation directly. If you need any help regarding accommodation or travel you may contact Susanne Broendberg (sbr@daimi.aau.dk). FURTHER QUESTIONS Concerning the workshop, ask Torben Amtoft (tamtoft@daimi.aau.dk). Concerning practical issues, ask Susanne Broendberg (sbr@daimi.aau.dk).
