Specifically, the purpose of this project is to use multi-agent technology to design, implement, and evaluate an INTERNET-based computer system that will allow users to automatically access and search distributed multi-media research archives. The successful candidate will be supervised jointly by Dr Michael Wooldridge and Ms Elaine Fernelely, and will work with a multi-media archive managed by the Granada Center for Visual Anthropology, based at the Victoria University of Manchester. The ideal candidate will have an interest in artificial intelligence and preferably multi-agent systems, and will have experience in programming with C++. The studentship is available for one year, extendible to three, with a grant of 5000 pounds per annum, plus at least 750 pounds additional paid lecturing/tutorial duties.
