DEPT.: Electronics Research Laboratory: Computer Science
SALARY: $51,972 - $80,352; salary commensurate with experience
HOURS: variable
DURATION: One year, 100% time position with possibility of extension. Full

Description:

UC Berkeley, Computer Science Department invites applications for a Specialist 
who will be a
key member of the Digital Library Research Project in the Computer Science 
Division within the
Electronics Research Laboratory. The project involves researchers in other 
campus departments,
as well as industrial visitors. The Specialist has major responsibilities for 
new natural language
information access system design and implementation for the Digital Library 
project. 

In collaboration with faculty members, graduate students, CS research staff 
and other researchers,
the Specialist will participate in research in support of the goals of the 
Digital Library project. In
particular, the Specialist will focus on issues of multimedia information 
retrieval, especially
statistical natural language analysis for text retrieval, and the integration 
of retrieval technologies
into overall systems design. 

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Computer Science or related discipline preferred. Expertise required 
in statistical natural
language processing, information retrieval, and computer systems. Expertise 
preferred in parallel
computation and database management systems.
