Where I Go to Work

Perhaps you are interested in what I work on. If so, try my cluttered office desk.

Sometimes I do work. Sometimes I work on stuff that's not work. When I'm doing either, I go to these places for reference material:

  • The English Server is run by Geoff Sauer of LCT and has positively reams of information, especially about philosophy and critical theory, but also lots of other good stuff.
  • Check out some libraries.
  • General references of various sorts:
  • Reference collections: On-line Reference Works; the Reference Shelf; the Virtual Reference Desk; (Spider's Web) References
  • Dictionaries: Japanese/English (totally cool); All kinds of English dictionaries (from a German point of view); Hypertext Webster Interface
  • German references: German - English On-line Dictionary; German Grammar Main Menu
  • Strunk, illiam. 1918. The Elements of Style.
  • Britannica Online
  • USIA Gopher server
  • Find folks discussing what you want at the tile.net/listserv list of discussion groups
  • Use the Deutsche Meta-Suchmaschine to search the German-speaking realm
  • The ETEXT Archives have all kinds of electronic texts
  • The Scout Report Signpost searches through the net to find, organize, and catalogue the best internet resources.
  • More specific sources:
  • For AI stuff try my AI page.
  • For cultural studies stuff try my cultural studies page.
  • Dave's Math Tables (a reference for the math you can't quite remember)
  • Emacs hackers: check the GNU Emacs Manual or WWW-ified Emacs Info
  • HTML: Latin-1 Character Text Entities; Character entity references in HTML 4.0
  • German lexicon of electronic media
  • FinAid: The Financial Aid Information Page
  • Advice on Research and Writing
  • Worried about a virus? Don't panic - check Dr Solomon's Computer Virus Information
  • For those quick business trips.... Air Traveler's Handbook Home Page
  • Looking for someone?
  • Phone Books and Email Directories
  • Ahoy! The Homepage Finder (I love this service)
  • Netfind Search for email addresses
  • Stuffed in a drawer is an infinite collection of maps.
  • Need some books?
  • Yahoo!'s list of booksellers
  • My favorite on-line bookstore is Powell's Bookstore, for both new and used books
  • Another excellent source of second-hand books from small, independent booksellers is the Advanced Book Exchange
  • Need some stationery? Try The Postcard Store or (for you more creative types) Stoli Note. For stamps, head to the United States Postal Service. Want to buy some office supplies, or anything else for that matter? Do it the post-industrial way and go to an agent who helps you find the best buys. Try Acses for books or Jango for other stuff. Need to call someone? Do it cheaply, over the net...
