Re: Extension of Health Care Benefits to Same Sex Domestic Partners

____

As you know, AMD is committed to equal opportunity for all employees.
We also encourage cultural diversity within AMD because it enhances
our ability to attract and retain highly qualified people.

As further confirmation of this commitment, we are expanding the
company's medical and dental plans to allow enrollment of employee's
same sex domestic partners as spousal equivilents if certain
conditions are satisfied. This change is effective July 1, 1994, and
individuals can sign up for this new benefit during Open Enrollment,
June 1-17.

The new coverage does not apply to heterosexual couples because,
unlike homosexual couples, they have a means to legalize their
relationship through marriage. Extension of coverage to domestic
partners simply equalizes the opportunity for homosexual employees by
extending coverage to their spousal equivalents. Eligible employees
and their domestic partners will be require to sign an affidavit
certifying that they satisfy a number of conditions, including that
they are jointly responsible for each other's common welfare and
financial obligations and that they intend to reside together
indefinitely.

This additional coverage will not affect current AMD medical and
dental insurance premium rates.

By extending coverage, the company is in no way advocating for or
against certain lifestyles. If you have any questions, please contact
Division Human Resources, or Benefits.

Please do not ask me any questions as I am under an NDA not to
discuss ANY aspect of company business which has not been made public
or semi-public by an AMD official.

Now... when you go shopping for computers, please remember that AMD
and not Intel has made this bold move. I am sure, though, that Intel
will soon copy AMD's benefits.
