Here are some of the recommendations I received. I have decided to
attend a class run by Gert Sullivan, Master Trainer.

In article <IgsK5ki00WBN0XFdhF@andrew.cmu.edu>, you write:
|> Can you recommend a dog training class that has the following
|> attributes:
|>
|> 1. runs in the winter (i.e., soon)
|> 2. indoor training area
|> 3. trainer is a pro; has worked with K-9 or advanced obedience classes
|> 4. small size classes (not more than 10-15 dogs/trainers) per class
|> 5. method can be Koehler or other firm training, but should be reward-
|> rather than punishment-oriented.

Gert Sullivan. She runs her classes out of the Penn Hills YMCA. Her
phone number is 793 5797. She meets all those criteria.

We took our dog (a boxer) to Misty Pines in Sewickley. I believe that
they meet all your criteria. 364-4122

Sara,

My husband is a professional dog trainer. If you'd like some info, please
e-mail at lp1n, or my on campus number is X81904.

Sara,

In my opinion the two best training situations in the Pittsburgh area are
Golden Triangle Obedience Training Club and Gert Sullivan's outfit. (Gert
is in the phone directory as is GTOTC). I am involved with GTOTC.

Both use a variety of techniques, but both definitely do teach leash
corrections as well as verbal and physical praise, play, and food rewards.
I don't know of any local training that exclusively uses rewards, but I
gather that you want the emphasis to be positive.

Call Barb Setler at ext. 3468. Her daughter is a professional dog
trainer although I am not sure she meets all the criteria you list. She
is very good though and would be glad to let you speak with former
clientele, I think.

The trainer that I used for my Lab puppy was great. She's very
knowledgeable. She not only does class training but she also conducts
personal training at your home. She has a lot of experience. Her name
is Sandy and her number is 487-4125. Good luck.
