My vet is Dr. Frank Babik at the Greenfield Veterinary Clinic. I would
gladly recommend him, but I wouldn't claim he's inexpensive.

Jon,

There's a great place for dogs and cats called the "Pittsburgh Spay
and Vaccination Clinic", but as the name implies, they are not a full
veterinary clinic. I've taken my kittens there for their shots and
checkups. All of the people are very friendly, and they obviously
care a great deal about animals, because they are extremely kind to
them. The clinic is located on Baum Blvd almost directly north of
CMU. Take Morewood away from campus; turn left on Baum; the clinic is
about two blocks away on the right, across from a car dealership (I
think this is Mervis Motors). Good luck!

Don't know where you live, but if it is Shadyside/Sq. Hill, try the
Greenfield Vet (I forget the name, but I think it's on Greenfield Ave,
just around the corner from Dominos.)

We live across the H.P. Bridge and use Swart in Fox Chapel. We were
happy with both.

Jon, you are going to get mail from everyone here who has a pet
and loves their vet!! So I suppose I'll add my opinion, too.

If you have a car and don't mind traveling a few miles, the best place
I know is the Aspinwall Veterinary Clinic near the Waterworks Plaza
off old Rt. 28 in Fox Chapel. It is also known as Swart Veterinary
Clinic. If you go to clinic hours, it costs less than a scheduled
appointment and these people are available 24 hours a day, every single day
if you have an emergency. That, to me, is very important.

An arm of that clinic is the Shadyside Veterinary Clinic in front of
the big Giant Eagle which sits back from Shady Avenue. A couple of
the vets who practice with Swart started this place a few years ago.
They can handle routine stuff there - but there is no hospital.
Emergencies areh andled thru the Aspinwall clinic. If you go
to Shadyside, be sure to see Dr. Murphy. He is the most caring person
I have ever seen who workings with animals. Swart may be next.

We use Dr Swart, 1152 Freeport Road in Aspinwall, 781-6446. When we
lived in Squirrel Hill we used Dr. Babik, 611 Greenfield Av, 422-7755.
We like both of them because the doctors are truly gentle to our dog.

Jon,

When we had a puppy, I used Dr. Babik of the Greenfield Veterinary
Hospital. His office is at 611 Greenfield Ave (across the Greenfield
Ave. Bridge, up the hill and bear to the right (past the Domino's
Pizza). It's close and he's real good.

Jon,
I can highly recommend the vet I take my dog to, and to whom I have taken
cats before. I don't know how he compares pricewise, but he is very good,
gentle, and listens when you talk. His name is Daniel Murphy, and he is part
of a clinic that has offices near the Shadyside Giant Eagle and also in
Fox Chapel. He is listed in the phone book. Good luck.

you want to go this far North I can give all the scoop.

Jon,

Frank Babik on Greenfield Ave has been very competent with our
cats and quite reasonable in his fees. Whenever we are there,
many dogs populate the waiting room. My wife has taken her cats
to Dr. Babik for almost 10 years (we've been married for three).

Good luck and enjoy! I'm sure you'll do fine - we've heard good
stories about other vets as well.
