Unfortunately, I only have a negative recommendation for cats. Do NOT
use the "Country Cabin Cattery," which is affiliated with the Cozy Inn
dog kennel and a veterinary clinic. The vet's wife runs the kennel,
his mother runs the cattery. The kennel is wonderful. In fact, our
dog is never particularly anxious to leave when we pick him up from
Cozy Inn, which I find amazing. Others have recommended Cozy Inn for
dogs, and we wholeheartedly second the recommendation. It's only
drawback is that it is far away.

The one time we took our cats to the "cattery", however, the woman
running the show didn't want to get involved with getting them out of
their carriers and into their cages, which I took to be a bad sign.
But we were leaving for vacation, so what to do, eh? On our return,
we discovered that early in the week, one of our two cats had soiled
himself. Rather than clean him, the vet's mother left him alone. He
was miserable. (This was not a garden variety soiling. It took
Maureen almost twenty minutes to clean him.) Her excuse? "He didn't
want me to clean him off." Of course he didn't. He's a cat. Cats
hate water.

Needless to say, we paid her about 1/3 what we owed her, and told her
we would rather be caught dead than bring our cats back to the
"Country Cabin Cattery" ever again.

Another place we've used for the dog is Golden Bone, (661-7001), which
is in the city. It is fine for the dog, though we typically only
leave him there for short periods, O(weekend), since he *is* anxious
to leave when we pick him up there. They are very clean and
professional, but we suspect he doesn't get the level of exercise he
expects while there. We've never left our cats there, so I can't
recommend them from experience. However, Golden Bone is a
professional, if a tad pricy, outfit; I would expect them to do a
competent job.

PS: Harry, I kept meaning to send you a review of this horrid
"cattery" (derision quotes intended), but had forgotten. Peter's
request spurred me to action.
