Recently, I was wondering the same thing so I called the Auto division
of the Pittsburgh police and asked for their recommendations. The officer
that I talked to recommended that I put a kill switch on the car. He also
said that sound alarms do not prevent theft if a professional will steal your
car but may prevent kids from taking it joy riding.

He also described a device that will be on the market soon that he felt will
be theft-proof. I can describe it to you if you are interested.
I must have talked about 15 minutes with the officer many things were said
that I can't remember now, but if you have some questions about specific
devices, I may have asked. If your in the neighborhood, I'll be glad to
share his advice.
