Subject: VW service/dealer infos

From: David Wood <dpw@SEI.CMU.EDU>

I've had some limited experience with North Park VW, which is at the
intersection of Route 8 and the Yellow Belt (Wildwood Road) in Allison
Park. So far, they've been quite reliable and fairly priced. It is
about a 30 minute drive from CMU: take 5th Avenue to Washington Blvd,
then cross the Allegheny river with either the Highland Park or 60th
Street bridges. From there, follow Route 8 through Etna and on North
toward the PA Turnpike. Dealership is on the right side.

...is actually not that bad. They are actually the closest to a real
VW garage (the type you see in Europe) that I have seen in PGH. The
problem is that they will try to sell you all kinds of services you
probably don't need. If you know what you want and are not afraid to
say no to something you don't want, you might still consider them.

Now given that the under-warranty repairs don't come from their
pocket or yours, this might maybe be a good deal (I had my car
repaired there after an accident that was somebody else's fault
and his insurance was paying. I didn't mind them overdoing it).

I've taken my '85 VW GTI several times to McGee VW in Dormont,
and once to South Hills VW (near the Century III mall). I would not go
back again to McGee. Their prices are higher than South Hills, and I
believe McGee recommends and performs unnecessary repairs.

My only dealing with Ted McWilliams was to buy a part; I found
they had a lower price than McGee. (This was before I discovered South
Hills.)

I like two places. The VW dealer that I would recommend is Billco out
in Wexford. The place if pretty far out, but the people are very curtious
and the prices are reasonable. I would also recommend Paul's VW as a
non-dealer VW/Audi exclusive service station (after your warrenty period has
run out). They are also quite a bit closer than Wexford. The numbers are

	Paul's VW/Audi service
	  884-8866

	Billco VW/Mazda Motors
	  935-4666

I use Paul's Voltswagen and Audi on Saw Mill Run Blvd. 884-8866.
They do good work at a fair price and only use genuine VW parts. A
couple of my friends have also used these guys with good results.

I have also hear that Sewickly Audi/Porche is good.
