Subject: Auto welding recommendations

Harry,

Here's the list of messages I got in response to a query to cs.general
about getting some gritty welding done on my truck.

Erik.

I've had good luck with a place called Alley-Way Garage or something
like that. They fixed some rust spots for me to get me past inspection.
They're on Woodworth street (just off Baum by the Jiffy-Lube, just east of
    Morewood).

    Erik,

    You might want to try:

    Murray Auto Body
    1130 Washington Blvd
    362-5700

My car needed frame welding work in December of 1989 and they took care
of it. They never suggested that I have anything else done--and my car
    could have certainly used it.

Of course, I've never crawled under to look at the work, but it hasn't
fallen apart yet and it passed inspection (at Murray Auto Body) in Nov
    1990.

    Good Luck,

    Felicia

MD Autoworks on Penn in Wilkinsburg is by far the local favorite for
    body work. Highly recommended.

    Erik,

        [[ Nichols - 1309 Washington Blvd, 362-4178
           Liberty - 1235 Washington Blvd, 661-1776 ]]
Nichols Welding & Liberty Welding are a couple doors away from each
other on Washington Blvd. I've had work done at Liberty, and have seen
"I welded this 5 years ago" work from Nichols, and both places have been
recommended to me by others. I recommend both, but only have actual
experience with Liberty. It's structural, alright. Not pretty -
structural (I had my box-frame welded and body mounts installed).

Both places have been there forever (well - liberty welding started out
on liberty ave in 1929, and their phone# = 1776... ;-) and both are good
    bets.

They are both gritty welding shops, not body palaces....

I asked Pat about your truck needs and she says Elmer's Auto Body in
Braddock does body work - 351-0482, 102 Hanna. If you connect with him you
might ask him or Pat how to get there. It isn't that complicated but unless
you know Braddock well directions might be helpful. She goes there all the
    time and I do occasionally.
