Subject: Toyota service recommendations

I've been taking mine to Krebs Toyota (Route 8 in Glenshaw).
They are not too cheap either --- I just had a full inspection and overhaul
at 35000 miles, which ran me $300 including replacing all four sets of brake
pads --- but they seem to be honest and competent.
My neighbor also drives a Toyota, and he always goes to Rohrich,
so you probably can take your choice.
I wouldn't touch McWilliams (the Monroeville outfit) with a ten meter pole.
-------------------------
Well, basically you've got it. Don't go to Rohrich or Ted McWilliams,
they are both ripoffs, if not crooks.
I've had OK experiences at Krebs Toyota (Rt 8, Glenshaw), but they are
still a dealership, which means they're primarily into selling cars,
not so much fixing them. Thus, they charge much more than a mechanic
would, partially because they must use original parts (which is often
quite unnecessary). Also, I suspect their recommendations as to what
should be done to your car are very conservative (i.e. extensive and
expensive) so that you might consider trading it in, resulting in a
sale for them. However, if you insist on a dealer doing your
maintenance, they are probably still a better bet than the other
slimeballs around town. One other place I know nothing about is
Airport Toyota, but the name somehow doesn't sound too encouraging.
--------------------------
When I last looked, the recommendations against Ted McWilliams in
Monroeville were either several years old and/or concerned the car
sales division. I had major transmission repair performed there last
year and was happy with the service. They seemed to be quited anxious
to get feedback about how they are doing too. I suspect that they have
cleaned up there act.
--------------------------
I've found Krebs and King's service to be more than adequate and their
prices to be reasonable. I'm sure private mechanics may do better on
both criteria, but I don't think a dealership could do better.
--------------------------
Richlin Imports is not an official Toyota dealer, but they specialize
in imports, particularly Toyota, Honda etc. In my 3 transactions with
them, they struck me as competent and reliable. Also, I believe that in
general a small shop is much preferable to a big dealer. The only
catch is that they recently relocated from Forest Hills to some distant
place past Murrysvilee -perhaps 20-30 minutes past Monroeville!
---------------------------
Hi, I've used both Airport Toyota and Krebs Toyota (on Rt. 8 north in
Glenshaw) and they both have decent service shops. I've even written to
Bovik about both places before.
---------------------------
I like Krebs Toyota on rt 8, the north hills. They have been
relatively cheap and do a reasonable job.
