I need to replace my old Goodyear Vector tires (Vectors are no longer
manufactured) soon. I am soliciting people's opinions on tires with
M/S (mud/snow) ratings? The results will eventually be sent to Bovik,
which is devoid of such information.

I am thinking about Goodyear (Invicta, Arriva, Tiempo), Michelin (MXV),
or Bridgestone. Other suggestions are welcome.

Fred,

I've been pretty happy with Goodyear Eagle GT+4's. They are a bit
expensive but they have excellent dry traction and good wet/snow
traction.

I have tremendous faith in Bridgestone in general. I don't experience
specifically with M/S rated tires but their all-season radials have
given me extremely long wear compared to other tires I've had on the
same car and other cars. Bridgestones are also rather popular on
amateur racing circuits. They are available at Tire America which usually
has the lowest prices when you consider all the hidden costs.

I've been collecting stuff off the rec.autos bboard for the last 2 months.
Everything I've grabbed is in my /../maps/usrma0/mdf/News/rec/autos/tires
file. Feel free to wade through this. I haven't really had a chance to go
through it myself (my tires are good for a while) but several people have
hinted that Michelins+car+snow = unguided missile.

I picked up a pair of Goodyear Invicta's last October and I've been very
happy. Plenty of snow exposure on several trips up to Vermont, with no
problems at all. In a couple of weeks, I'm picking up a second pair and
rotating the ones I've got onto the back.

Good luck.
