Edmunds (the peole who write the car books) has a web page
that we found to be very useful when buying a car.  It
has dealer invoice prices, a listing of what factory-to-dealer 
incentives are going on (and their expiration dates), crash-test
results, used-car prices, etc.  For instance, if a dealer says
that their cost for a car has gone up since the beginning of
the year by X dollars, you can compare the prices here with the
prices from a book published at the beginning of the year and
check for yourself.  Same for incentives.  We found this to be useful 
for us both in screening out some dealers and feeling more confident about
