Dear Harry,

I received the following information in response to a post about good
Transmission shops in Pittsburgh. I hope you can update your files
with this information.

Dan,
I have used a couple of places. Amco on Baum, seemed to be OK.
Bruno's in East Liberty is good but they are very busy. I recent;y
found a mechanic who seems very competent. His name is Frank Guerico
and he is Hazelwood. It is a scummy area but he has a good shop
and very good prices. I don't have his number handy but his garage
is called AutoMart. Let me know if you have any trouble- I'll track
it down for you. Good Luck.

We had some transmission work done at AAMCO in East Liberty last year. I'm
not sure what their nationwide reputation is, but they seemed competent.
The most impressive thing was that a couple months after the work had been
done, we had some car trouble that acted like transmission trouble, so we
took it over their to check it out. They verified that it was not a problem
with the transmission or clutch, and they found a loose vacuum hose and
fixed it (which cured the problem).

We haven't had any trouble with the work they did.

Dan, Check out Parkway Transmissions in Monroeville (on 22 across from Ted
McWilliams; in the old Scuro's place). They seem very competent and very
willing to please. Their phone number is 829-1151. -Wilson

Absolutely do check out Dwayne Hiers in the South Hills (561-4490).
He rebuilt our 5 speed Toyota transmission, came in under estimate,
showed me the extracted transmission and explained the problems,
and no problems since (18 months). His warranty was better than
most other shops. Others have had work done there and been happy,
e.g., Ben Brown I think. He's also near a T stop so it is trivial
to get into CMU when you drop the car off and to get back there to
pick it up.
