When I had my inspection done there, they charged me ~$6 (If memory serves)
for a PAIR of side marker lights. I assumed they were actually out, though
I was a bit surprised that 2 side marker lights had both blown. Anyway,
now I assume I was ripped off. Of course they did the repair without
authorization.

Needless to say, everyone should avoid this gas station like the plague. In
fact, I think someone should tell the BBB and the Penn DMV about them. Anyone
want to volunteer?

By the way, does anyone know what legal options you have when your car fails
an inspection? If you do the repairs yourself, must you pay for another
inspection.

I've had two inspections at the Exxon station on Forbes near the
Morewood parking lot. They didn't "find" anything wrong with the
car either time -- just charged me for the inspection. I have
also had them do minor repairs and they have been fair. For instance,
I had a minor coolant leak after a fender bender accident and left the
car there for them to find the leak. All they did was tighten a clamp.
They COULD have told me it was a leaking hose, or worse. Moral of the
story: Go there -- it's closer than the Mobil station anyway.

P.S. If you fail an inspection, you must pay for it anyway. If you
make the repairs yourself (or have them done at another station), you
have to have the car re-inspected and pay again IF YOU REMOVE THE CAR
FROM THE ORIGINAL INSPECTION STATION.

I always repair the car myself, and have never had a problem with
re-inspection as long as I bring the car back in a reasonable time, like
within a week. I thought this was the law, or at least a commonly accepted
practice. I've had cars inspected in Squirrel Hill at the Mobil station at
Beacon and Murray (which I do not recommend) and also at the Forbes and
Murray Gulf Station, which I do recommend, although the Doug Hess Exxon
(Forbes between Craig and Morewood) also sounds good.

The people that are complaining about the Morewood and Centre Mobil station
should write letters to the AAA; since they are part of AAA's list of
certified stations, AAA will probably do something about the station, like
remove their certification.
