Harry,

I rolled down the driver's side window of my 1984 Chevy Citation
(manual windows) while travelling on the Turnpike, and it refused to
go up all the way. I peeked behind the door panel, and the glass had
separated from the regulator mechanism. The glass is "glued" into a
U-shaped channel, and the "glue" failed.

I called up SAFELITE at 9:30, and got an appointment at 11. (The company
has a central booking service for all Pittsburgh locations.) They took
me at 11:20, but the car was repaired by 11:40. Cost was $25; I should
have looked at your mail first, because I didn't know that I might have
obtained a student discount (see Chen Lee's mail of 6 May 1997).

I was lucky; evidently the U-shaped channel rots and separates on GM cars.
If this happened, it would take an extra day (and extra money) to get
a replacement part.

The whole experience was good, and I second previous recommendations for
this location. Tom Delo is the manager. They definitely stand behind
their work; while I was waiting I saw him replace for free the
front windshield on a car that had sprung a leak after being
previously replaced... and he even offered to pay to replace the
windshield stickers. I also saw him re-attach the rear-view mirror of
another customer, who did not require any other services, for free.
