We used Hi-Tech for annual inspection since 1990, both of our cars (1989 celica
and a 86 volvo) passed without any problem. But they failed us badly this year.
They quoted $60 worth of brake
work on the celia which was later done at Speedy for $45. And they found all
sorts of problems with the volvo that would cost $250 to pass the inspection.
Not so coincitentally, a friend of ours who wanted to take the advantage the
cheap inspection there, got a quote of $360 worth of work. He took his car to
another shop, and found no leaking pipes or loosing belts that Hi-Tech
ferreted out. We were wondering how they could make money on these $8.50
inspections, now we know.
