Subject: Mervis Nissan

I've seen praise and disgust with Mervis Nissan. Here's some disgust
due to an experience I had last year. I took my '75 Datsun in for a
tune-up. As I recall, Mervis charged $40 per hour for labor. A few
days after I got the car back, I looked at the the points -- they were
in bad shape, and had not been replaced. I called and asked about it,
and the response was "Your car doesn't have points." It seemed clear
at that point what a repair relationship with Mervis Nissan would be,
so I've not gone back.

I took it to a dealer because, in the past, I had a very good repair
relationship with a (different) dealer. I believe, however, that it
was due to a single mechanic who appreciated old cars that have been
kept in good shape. I suspect that, in general, dealers can't make
much money tuning up 15-year-old cars, so they just don't care.
