Here are the messages I got in reply to a post asking for
recommendations on auto body repair shops that could deal with rust:

I was very satisfied with the work done by W & S Autobody in Hazelwood.
I got some rust removed the hard way, but they repaired the car very
quickly and matched the paint perfectly. I actually had some panels
replaced, so I can't properly offer an opinion on their ability to
re-work metal in place. The establishment isn't much to look at, but
talk to Rich Debone the proprietor for a while and form your own
impression.

As I mentioned to you before, I was not entirely happy with
Jon McElravy's body work.

My wife took her aging Datsun to Bill's Auto Service in Dormont, and was
very satisfied with the work he did. It's a small, one-man operation, and
Bill seems very competent and interested in making his customers happy.

Vince's Auto service in Shadyside recently did a very nice job on
some collision damage; be sure to speak to Jon there. I have no
idea how good they are at fixing rust spots.

For very decent work and decent price, certainly good bargain for older
cars, I go to Frank Nania in Oakland. --DL

Vince's just off Ellsworth has been good to me and others I've talked
to. Mervis agreed he did a good job welding the frame of my Datsun and
the price was about %60 of what everyone else wanted. I don't know if
you can extrapolate from this to other types of body work.

Jon,
I've had some body work done at Superior Auto Body in Sq. Hill.
They are very good.

I had some body work done at American Auto Repair on Liberty Ave. in
Shadyside. They replaced my bumper and removed a couple of serious dents
>from the panel above it. The dent removal was a very nice job, and the
people there seem very reasonable about not spending all your money.
I don't know, however, about rust removal.

PS: I saw some excellent restoration work on a '59 Chevy done by Mel's
Auto Body near or in Etna.

I had my car repainted and some minor rust removed last November by
Demsie's in Wilkinsburg based on the recommendation of someone who had
used them several times. I was very happy with the service and the job
they did. However, it's too soon to know if the rust is going to
reappear.

As for other places, I have a friend who's had several accidents and
has always gone to Bob's, also in Wilkinsburg, a block away from
Demsie's. He's had no problems. On the other hand, don't go to
Reynolds (close to, but not quite in, Wilkinsburg). They had a
tendency to spray paint over rust.
