I just finished buying a used car from McKean AMC/Jeep/Renault in
Monroeville (243-0680), and the experience was a pleasant surprise.
[Note that this is not the same McKean as the Honda/etc. dealer others
have disparaged; it's owned by the same people as McKean Cadillac.]

The salesman was very good about selling the car -- There was
very little pressure to buy, and when we got down to bargaining he
asked me what I thought the car was worth, and then offered to sell me
the car for that price. [A surprise, as I was expecting to have to
bargain up from there; needless to say it was a deal.] The only thing I
did get pressured about was my insistence on having the car looked at
by an independent mechanic before I bought it. They did agree to let me
take the car to the mechanic, and after I brought it back the service
department fixed the minor things the mechanic found that same
afternoon.

In any case I got a good deal (acc. to used car price guides
and the advertised prices I've seen) on a nice car (2 year old AMC
Renault Alliance). The salesman I dealt with is Mike Schneider, who was
quite reasonable about everything. I'd recommend him to
anyone considering a new or used car. If you're thinking about a small
car, consider the AMC Renault subcompacts (Alliance and Encore); the
1985 Consumer Reports buying guide gives the Alliance a good repair
record (Average -- better than all other US cars in its class -- the
Encore was too new for repair data to be available), and
rates both cars overall as "the equal of some small imports" with
appropriate laudatory comments.
