There is a two-man mechanic garage over past Baum. I have to look at
a map, if you stop by my office I'll see if I can locate it. He was
a great mechanic for a friend of mine fro a couple years. WeH 7l2l.

Hello,
No, never spend your $$ at Mervis. Here's someone who does
better work, charges much less, and tells you what he's doing without
mystification:
		E&M Foreign Auto Repair
125 Edgewood Ave., Swissvale (on the 61A bus line)
		243-4069.
The owner is named Art. He fixes my Fiat sedan. By the way, Fiat is
short for "Fix it again, Tony." I'll never buy another one.

Well, I'm not sure I can offer much more than sympathy, but I did own
a Fiat recently, and I have had Mervis work on my Datsun before. What's
wrong with your car? What kind of Fiat is it? Maybe some auto guru
types around here can form a consensus of how easy it would be to
get it fixed right elsewhere, or by yourself.

Try the Auto Palace at the corner of Baum and Melwood. They do superb work.

30-Aug-85 15:34 Ping Kang Hsiung@CMU-CS-UNH to depressed Fiat owners
days ago i posted on this bb asking for info.
about Fiat mechanic/garage in order to fix
my Fiat Strada yet to save myself from a >1k
bill quoted by Mervis. i got a lot resp. from
very nice people in this community. After making
calls, i shiped my car to this garage named
"Bruno's Garage" at E. Liberty (info. thanks to
Ms. Cathy Hill) and up to now, i've got satisfactory
attention and fast response from the mechanics in
the shop, and i am waiting for the moment to pick up
my car tomorrow, with expected bill of <600$.
i found out with surprise that there were a lot
(poor, frustrated) Fiat owners in this comminity,
i am willing to share the info. about this garage
as well as the quality of the work i receive (which
i can't tell now.) So if you are interested in receiving
further info. regarding this, please send me mail
at pkh@unh, i'll let you know the detail in the near
future.

*"the day after"*
---------------------------------------
1. Bruno's spends one and a half day to fix all the
problems identified on my fiat (Mervis hanged my car
at the backyard for 3 weeks!) i fetch my car the next
day i sent it in. during the period, the owner Ernie
called me for 3 times telling me the development.

2. when i went there to pick up my car, i received a
very detailed explaination of the nature of the problems
happened, the appropriate measures to prevent them coming
out again.

3. i went up to the parkway, tested the car, and found it
was in very good condition. (as far as i could feel.)

4. two interesting (encouraging) points:
	1. my window handle (the one to roll the window
up/down) was broken. they did not have that
specific part in stock, so they tailored a
used handle for car of another make, and fit
it on my fiat because they did not find it
worth my extra money/time to get a new Fiat one.
	2. as a *typical* (worried) Fiat owner, i asked Ernie
what his evaluation was about my fiat's (1979, 70k)
general condition. his answer actually surprised me
(a typical pessimistic/cynical Fiat owner.) he said
the car was in very good condition and was working well,
and told me not to worry about it. i've asked this same
question to every garage that had fixed my fiat for me,
and all the answers i got were "no, throw it away as
soon as possible!" a garage at Forbes even refused to
examine it in greater detail since it didn't worth their
time. Ernie's answer gave me the feeling that he indeed
knew what he(they) was (were) doing and had confidence about
his/their judgement toward an unpopular car to which the
simplest and safest comment would be "throw it away".
