The guy told me the brakes were o.k. but that the suspension was coming apart and that if I did not replace the Mac Pherson struts in the front my car (76 Honda Civic) would be totally wrecked. He said that the springs were o.k. and that he could therefore do the job for a mere $200. I told him to hold off and called the previous owner of the car. It turned out that he had had the struts replaced a mere 2000 miles back. He told me that there was no way they could need replacement right then. When I mentioned this to the mechanic he said that struts sometimes get screwed quickly. Maybe if I didn't mind taking the risk the replacement could wait for a few months. You can form your own opinion. Sesh
