Tire America which sells tires at several area Kaufman's dept. stores
seems about the best in the area. There are other places that are
similar in price but are not as convenient for various reasons. The
Kaufmans stores in Monroeville and in the North Hills on McKnight Road
hace Tire America outlets (I'm sure others do also, but not every
Kaufman's has one). You just show up and pick tires to have put on
your car; it generally takes about 30-45 minutes unless they are really
busy.

They carry Michelin and various other brands of tires (not Goodyear or
Firestone, though, of course). The last time I priced a particular
Michelin tire the prices ranged from $108/tire at Montgomery Wards to
$32/tire at Tire America and one other place on Rt. 8 whose name I
can't remember. I did a pretty exhaustive search by phone of all the
places in the city proper and the north hills area listed in the yellow
pages as carring Michelin tires.

The salesman at Tire America will often suggest some cheaper, unheard
of brand of tires as a substitute for Michelin. I've never acted
interested and they've never pressed me. They've always had plenty of
any Michelin tire that they advertise and generally are well stocked on
Michelin tires in general. I have only bought tires at the McKnight Rd
store; friends have bought at Monroeville. None of us have experienced
any problems.
