Harry,
Following your kind recommendation, I visited Transmissions by Lucille
in Penn Hills this morning. I was told to be there about 8 AM, and they
could check out my transmission then to see if it was a quickie repair that
could be done while I waited.
I arrived at 8:08 and had to wait about 15 minutes for service. The
serviceman immediately diagnosed the problem as a broken linkage spring,
and completed the repair within 10-15 minutes. The transmission shifted
perfectly thereafter. They charged $15.63, including $12 for labor, which
I thought was a bit steep since it translates to an hourly charge of about
$50, but considering the speed and efficacy of the service, I did not complain.

I too would recommend this establishment to anyone who has trouble with a
transmission. They are located on Verona Rd., just north of Frankstown
Rd. If you go there, beware--there's no street sign on the corner. You
will know the intersection by the "Left Lane Must Turn Left" sign that
immediately precedes it.
