He's in the yp under Transmissions. He put in a new clutch too. I was very impressed with him. His shop is right next to the South Hills T, so it is easy to get to and from without a car. I found him through Lucille's, which only replaces transmissions, doesn't rebuild them. I take my car to an independent garage (Bastone Auto), and I think they did a fine clutch job. Caveat: I'm no expert. - John [I would have taken my car to my usual mechanics, but Forbes and Murray Gulf won't touch Subaru clutches :-(] Date: Wed, 06 Feb 91 17:37:13 EST From: Rajeev Jayaraman Subject: Re: HELP with transmission Hi, I am in exactly the same situation with my Subaru and the lowest quote I got was $300. Are you getting any lower in any of the places you mentioned? I checked with Bruno's in East Liberty and he came with that number. Could you let me know about the responses you receive. Thanks. They're usually pretty busy, so you have to wait a week or so for an appointment, but they are very nice and extremely good about doing as little as possible (no unnecessary repairs, no random price inflation). In fact, they first checked to see if it could be adjusted instead of replaced. -Ellen Date: Fri, 08 Feb 91 09:10:26 EST From: neek@NEEK.FAC.CS.CMU.EDU Subject: Re: HELP with transmission Well, I don't know about either of the above, however I do know of a great general purpose garage that is extremely convenient to CMU. The name is Constantin Auto, and they are right next to the entrance of the parking garage under the SEI (Filbert St. maybe ??). I've been taking my car there several times for various problems. They are efficient, very nice, and most of all quite honest. I rec- commend them highly. Phone: 621-8497. Craig Marcus SCS Facilities Staff. -- I finally chose to go to Bruno's. It turned out that three Subaru's were going in on the same day for clutch jobs. The good news is that my car didn't need a whole new clutch, it just needed some adjustment. I'd definately recommend Bruno's, and might go there more often if they were closer to my home (Sq. Hill). I've also been very happy with the service that I've recieved from my usual mechanics at Forbes and Murray Gulf, except for the fact that there are some things they won't touch (Subaru clutches and manifolds, to be exact). One final note about Bruno's. It's at the bottom of Mellon Street, half a block from Marguerite?, off an alleyway from the main road (the street number for 518 Mellon is on a house, the garage is behind the house). They also had me park on the street overnight, so you might want to make sure that you've removed/hidden any valuables from the car (I'm usually less worried about this in my neighborhood in Sq. Hill). Glenn
