Sobalvarro Subject: Kiddy Comp To: Ben.Brosgol at CMU-10A Via: MIT-AI; 4 Nov 1981 2226-EST If the elementary school in question is interested in using Logo, I would sugggest either a TI 99/4 with TILogo, or an Apple II with 48K, a disk drive, and an Apple Language card. This would make it possible for them to run MIT Apple Logo, which is about to reach the market after about a year of debugging at test sites (including a lot of elementary schools). If you don't know about Logo and its use with kids, I'd suggest reading "Mindstorms", by Seymour Papert (director of the MIT Logo Group, and former co-director of the MIT AI Lab). Logo is the most powerful interpretive computer language available on the Apple (or the TI 99/4), and it was designed with use in education in mind. Show it to the PTA. I think you would open some minds to a neat philosophy of education. Still more information can be gotten from Debbie Tatar (who is secretary of the MIT Logo Group). Her net address is TATAR@MIT-AI; her MIT address is Logo Group MIT Rm. 20C-109 Cambridge, Mass. 02139 (617) 253-7860 A good, cheap computer dealer in Cambridge is Harvest Computer. They have the best prices, and a good service department. They are also smart people, which makes them different from just about any other small computer dealer in the Boston area. Hope you find this helpful. -pgs
