QUOTE OF THE WEEK ===========================================================
1446) "The company's credibility with its various constituents was at an all-
      time low, and quite frankly, customers were concerned about its
      viability. Our customers know that I believe in [KSR's] products, and
      that I have the reputation of pursuing my goals until I succeed."
             -- William I. Koch, Chairman and CEO, Kendall Square Research

ANALYSIS & FEATURES =========================================================

1444) DEREGULATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE SUPERHIGHWAY IN JAPAN............85
      PACIFIC RIM REPORT by Raul Mendez, Contributing Editor
      A main finding of a panel discussion at a recent four-day meeting --
      "Where to Japan Inc." (literal translation, the Showa Era
      History of Japan Inc.) -- was that the system MITI helped to shape
      has gone awry in an unexpected way. The final conclusion of the panel
      is that 'Japan Inc.' must somehow be restructured into 'Japan
      International'.

9046) CASE STUDY: MPP HELPS CONSULTING FIRM SOLVE COMPLEX PROBLEMS.........39
      FEATURE by Martha Keeley, Thinking Machines Corporation
      The Connection Machine CM-5 system purchased from Thinking Machines is
      used to develop massively parallel software, to convert existing
      applications to MPP and to execute large-scale application projects for
      Booz, Allen & Hamilton's client corporations.

1446) AFTER "DISMAL" 1Q 94, KENDALL SQUARE SEEKS CUSTOMERS................132
      News Analysis by Norris Parker Smith, Editor at Large
      Kendall Square Research (KSR) lost $10 million in 1994's first quarter,
      three times as bad as the unprofitable first quarter of 1993. KSR
      chairman and main investor Koch said this was "dismal" but vowed to
      recover sales momentum. It will be a tough comeback.
