Hans,

I used Kernighan & Pike, "The Unix Programming Environment" (Prentice
Hall) to learn Unix.

It is tutorial in nature, easy to understand, and works especially well if
you've got a terminal in front of you and actually type in the examples as
you go along.

There is a nice book which is easy to read and informative on UNIX.
The name of the book is "Exploring the UNIX Environment" by Kochan
and Wood. It is published by Hayden Book Company. Approx Cost - $25

Mark Sobell's book is the best. (A Practical Guide to the UNIX System, pub. by
Benjamin/Cummings.) A new edition is reportedly coming very soon, with a review
by yours truly on the back cover...
