4038) CRAY RESEARCH IN TALKS TO BUY BUSINESS OF MINNESOTA
      SUPERCOMPUTER CENTER
=============================================================================

  Eagan, Mn. -- In an unprecedented move, Cray Research, Inc. announced
yesterday its intention to hold discussions to determine whether Cray would
offer to acquire the business of the Minnesota Supercomputer Center, Inc.
(MSCI).

  John F. Carlson, Chairman and CEO of Cray Research, Inc., stated, "We
are planning to expand our involvement in the high-performance computer
services market. Our vision is to provide a variety of 'anywhere, anytime'
solution-based services to a wider range of customers than we are able to
reach today with our existing hardware products. Carlson continued, "We
plan to develop a base capability that is similar to MSCI's. Given our
intention to enter this market and our existing relationship with MSCI and
the University, one option is for Cray Research to consider acquiring MSCI's
commercial business."

Stephen R. Pflaum, Chairman of MSCI, and to President Nils Hasselmo of

the negotiations, see next week's issue of HPCwire.
