4041) GOODYEAR'S VIRTUAL ENTERPRISE 2000: PART 2..........................468
      The history of organizational structures has been evolutionary, from
      vertical to horizontal, with a gradual reduction of levels in the

QUOTE OF THE WEEK ===========================================================
9045) "The Japanese purchase of six U.S. supercomputers of a total of 15
      machines procured by the Japanese government during the 1993 Japan
      Fiscal Year represents a positive development in the sector, but ...
      the year-long review process has highlighted several major areas of
      concern."
             -- Mickey Kantor, U.S. Trade Representative

ANALYSIS & FEATURES =========================================================

1441) BENCHMARKS SUGGEST IBM'S SP2 COULD GRAB POWER LEAD..................113
      Commentary by Norris Parker Smith, Editor at Large
      Preliminary, selective and not readily comparable benchmarks suggest
      that IBM's new SP2 scalable parallel system -- at least in small
      configurations tested so far -- can, in some cases, outperform much
      larger node-counts from IBM's competitors.

1442) TURBULENCE AND MICROTRANSPORT IN COMPLEX GEOMETRIES..................61
      by Merry Maisel, San Diego Supercomputer Center
      A group at Brown University led by George E. Karniadakis is carrying
      out two innovative investigations in fluid mechanics using the Intel
      Paragon at SDSC. Both projects involve explaining paradoxical behavior
      exhibited by simple fluids flowing either around or within bodies
      having complex or microscale geometries.

1443) NEC, SEQUENT: TWO WAYS IN PC-BASED MULTIPROCESSING..................101
      News Analysis by Norris Parker Smith, Editor at Large
      Sequent and NEC illustrate contrasting paths in multiprocessor servers
      based on Intel Pentiums and Windows NT. Comparison of six vendors show
      that similarities dominate except for price (Sequent is high) and I/O
      (partially or entirely proprietary).
