QUOTE OF THE WEEK ===========================================================

9037) "The complexity of supercomputers and highly parallel systems requires
that the SPEC/HPSC develop different run and reporting rules than those used
by the SPEC/OSSC."
              -- SPEC Steering Committee

ANALYSIS & FEATURES =========================================================

1381) CONVEX & H-P LAUNCH EXEMPLAR INTO CROWDED MARKET....................164
      Commentary by Norris Parker Smith, Editor at Large
   Convex and H-P collaboration on the new Exemplar scalable parallel system
combines H-P chips with Convex software and a hybrid Mach/HP-UX operating
system. Full desktop-to-TFLOP binary compatibility is claimed. An overcrowded
market clouds its prospects.

1382) NETWORK BEHAVIOR, APPLIED NETWORK RESEARCH..........................176
      by Marsha Jovanovic and Kimberly Claffy, San Diego Supercomputer Center
   Before researchers can develop realistic models of today's complex network
infrastructure, they must characterize traffic flow and network performance.
These needs are being addressed by the Applied Network Research group (ANR),
a collaboration between SDSC and UCSD.

1383) KSR SETTLES SUIT AS CEO KOCH UPS ANTE BY $25 MILLION................100
      News Analysis by Norris Parker Smith, Editor at Large
   Kendall Square and other defendants will pay over $5 million to settle a
stockholder suit as CEO Bill Koch adds $25 million to his commitment, giving
him a 47 percent stake (a total of $65 million) in KSR, whose estimated
1993 revenues may fall below $15 million.
