If you get any stereo magazine, places in New York, Chicago, and LA advertise prices. I suspect you can save at least 30% of the cost over buying locally. I have dealt with several of these places and have never had any problems. If you'd like, I'll look up their names. My advice on names is to stay with manufacturers which do not market cheap lines. This would exclude Akai, Fischer, BIC, Radio Shack, and Sansui. I have a copy of consumer reports which rates many components in the price range you mention, and can loan it to you any time. -- Gary
