I recommend that anyone fond of, or interested in trying, Philipino food
check out La Filipina on Butler St. in Lawrenceville (in the 5300 block).

We had the place all to ourselves when we went (no, not a bad sign for
the restaurant's food, it was Wed. night when the roads were icing up
everywhere!). It is run by a Philipino family.

We had a good Philipino wonton soup to start with, got an appetizer sampler
that had some eggrolls, a tasty doughy pastry filled with what seemed like
beef, beans, and raisins, and a small salad. For the entree I had a beef
stir fry, which had a tasty sauce that tasted like soy, garlic, and curry,
and my girlfriend had chicken adobo, which is chicken thighs cooked in a
soy and garlic type sauce. Quite good. You also get a plate of fried rice
and mixed vegetables. For dessert they gave us a little sampler, which
consisted of a yellow sponge-cake type cake, a small piece of a fruity
tasting bean-paste type cake, and a caramel tasting sort of pie which was
kind of rubbery in texture. All in all, we were quite full by the end, but
very pleased with the food and the place.

For Feb. and March they are having a buy one entree get the second for 1/2
off special. Check 'em out!
