Subject: CDs

Below is the reply I got concerning places to get CDs. My own comments
about CBS is that the initial deal is pretty good, but then they get really
annoying with their monthly mailings which you have to answer. Otherwise, they
automatically assume you want to buy the current CD of the month. RCA has a
similar deal.

I belong to both the CBS CD club and the Compact Disk Club (which I'll gladly
give you a membership form for, if you're interested :-). Having been a member
of both for about 8 months, I have found that the Compact Disk Club gives a
better overall selection and frequently better prices than CBS. Unfortunately,
their service is not as good. After buying a few CDs from them, you become
a "Preferred Member", and then every second CD is half price (initially, it's
every third CD, I think). Also, they put on the occasional "sale", where you
get two bonus coupons for every CD purchased, so that two out of every three
CDs are half price. In general, I am very happy with both clubs, but because
of these special deals, I do most of my purchasing from the Compact Disk Club.
