The best place to start is definitely Jerry's in Oakland (next to
Macdonald's). They have one of the biggest jazz sections I've seen.

There is also a place in Millvale called "The Attic" that has hundreds of
thousands of hard-to-find albums. They also sell all CDs for 12.99 if you order
ahead of time.

If all else fails, try Record-Rama in teh North Hills on McKnight Road.
They have virtually every record ever recorded. The only catch is that some of the
very rare records can only be rented so you can tape them.

						Good luck,
							Chris

Henning,
The record store in Shadyside Village (at Walnut/Aiken, I forget the
exact name) has a decent selection of jazz; It's the best of any record
store I've seen in a couple of mile radius.

Henning,
Best places for jazz records in town (in order of selection) are:

1.) Stedeford's -- Federal Street, North Side (***THE VERY BEST!***)

2.) Record Recycler -- Forbes Avenue, Squirrel Hill

3.) Jerry's Records -- Forbes Avenue, Oakland (above Original
				Oyster House)

4.) Record Graveyard -- Forbes Avenue, Oakland (above Panther
				Hollow Inn near campus)

5.) Village Records -- Shadyside (in little shopping mews at foot
				of Walnut Street)

6.) National Record Mart -- Downtown store on Forbes is the
    			       	    only NRM with serious jazz
				    collection.

7.) Oasis Records -- Oakland store on Forbes is only one with
			     any sort of jazz selection.

NOTE: Numbers 2, 3 and 4 deal mostly in used records, although
they have a lot of great cut-outs. So they may not be
the best place for records which will be given as gifts.

At a first shot I'd say to try Record Rubble (or something like that).
They are located downstairs, through a little doorway, hidden in the wall
on Forbes in Sq Hill. This doorway is between Atlantic books and Say
Cheese (that cheese and coffe shop), across the street somewhat from Baskin
and Robbins.

The other choice is Eides downtown. They're near 10th and Penn on Penn.
Eides used to be pretty good for used jazz, but I haven't been album buying
in a year or so.

You can find many old any-kind-of-album-you-want at the Record
Graveyard located just above the PHI, also you could go to the place
called Garbage Records on Forbes avenue in Pitt Oakland area.

Jim's, on Liberty ave. in Bloomfield, has a good selection of blues.

You can become a WRCT dj, like myself (and several other department
members), and have access to their large record library, which has
O(1000) jazz & blues albums. I believe it's the largest record library
in the city.

There will be slots available next semester, don't know when, There's
probably an 'RCT meeting coming up soon. Not sure if/when dj training will
be going on. If you're interested I'll tell you when I find out.

A 3 hr show, which I had, involves about 45mins pre/post-time overhead
minimum, to find what you're going to play & later put it away...

Order a good set of catalogs, from places like Rounder Records,
Alligator, Flying Fish, Yazoo ... I believe there are about 200+
labels which deal in gospel/blues. I can find some addresses. I think
there's a couple catalogs at home I could find, & we could maybe share
some. I like blues, & "hot" jazz myself, better than most
contemporary fusion-type stuff.

WDUQ plays a lot of jazz, and on Sat/Sun they have special shows...
WYEP, back on the air now for a couple months, plays some jazz & mellow
stuff.

I find the term "jazz" pretty fuzzy...

I haven't been buying many albums lately. I find a lot of good stuff
on the radio; some of it I tape & listen to later. I also tape my own
shows, since I usually play music I like.

Does this help? I'd be interested in the responses you receive, too.

you ought to try "Jerry's fine used records".
His place is on Forbes in the same block as
Roy Roger's, Nat Record Mart and McDonalds
(Oakland) only it is upstairs.
