Subject: Developing Slides

Where is the quickest place to get Kodachrome slides developed? Fotohut said a
week and the Art store on campus said 10 days. Is there any place that
would get them back to me by the end of this week if I sent them in today?

==============================================================================

Sulkolsky (open until 5:30)
908 Penn Ave (Downtown)
391-6440

3-4 days for Kodachrome slides

7.50 (36 exposures)
5.70 (24 exposures)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fotoshop Squirrel Hill
421-7700

1 week for Kodachrome slides

7.50 (36 exposures)
5.70 (24 exposures)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

try ProPhoto, 307 E. Carson St, 381-3886.
They pick up film from CMU all the time and deliver the slides next day,
we use them in ECE regularly. Call them for the price.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We use either Pro Photo (on the Southside) or Filmet (in Swissvale) for all
of our processing (I work for the dept. head in ECE). I know that Pro will
turn slides around in 24 hours, but I'm not sure how much it will cost you.
I've only had prints done at Filmet, but some of it has been custom work and
they've turned it around in 3-4 days.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kodachrome is processed only by Kodak and one or two other companies
specially approved by Kodak. I think they send it al to Rochester NY.
The reason is that the process is very complicated/critical as the film
is optimized for best colors and saturation. Sulkolsky (391-6440) will
send it out for you for three day service (but they may charge a bit
more).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fotohut does get it back to you in 2-3 working days if you get it to them
before 10.00am on a given day. Fotohut is the only place I can recommend and
they COULD be back on friday if you hand them in tomorrow morning though if it
doesn't get back by then then you would have to wait until the next 'kodak
delivery' on monday morning. How about fotoshop - they might get it back to
you by friday.

I have used pro photo:

Phone no.. 381-3886

address:
307 E. Carson Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15219

They do 24 hour processing.

They pick up at CMU
between about 2:30 and 4:00...then deliver the next
day between 2:30 and 4:00

Unless you want to take them to one of the Kodalux labs in person (the
closest is in Findlay, Ohio), I doubt that you can get faster service
than about a week. Kodachrome can only be developed at the Kodalux
labs and a handful of other big processors in the country (it's a 12
step, very exacting process). No one in or near Pgh can actually
develop Kodachrome, they're all sending it to Kodalux. You could try
all of the pro labs in town -- one of them might use a courier service
for faster turnaround, but I doubt it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you're in a hurry, Ektachrome is definitely better. There are
several labs in town that can give one hour turn around on Ektachrome.
It's personal taste, but I like the richer colors of Kodachrome better,
so it's usually worth the inconvenience.

If you happen to discover a way of getting faster turnaround, please
let me know. There have been times when I wished that I could get a
roll back fast.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Try calling this place. [I believe that I had a 36exp roll of slide
film developed by them in less than 4 hours for less than the art store
charges for 7 days. They are professionals too!]

Sukolsky Brunelle Photographics
908 Penn Ave 391-6440

They are close to the intersection of Penn and 9th ST.
They may be hard to find, but call them and they'll tell you what to
look for.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pro Photo on the south side 307 East Carson Street is a profeesional
Photography lab that will develop them in 24 hours. They charge$5.75 a
roll and are open m-f 8:30-5:00 their phone number is 381-3886.

Try Pro Photo on Carson St.

I may not be of direct help, but here is a way to get some
information. Kodachrome films require very special expensive processing
equipment, hence local facilities for these films do not to my
knowledge exist. The nearest Kodalux processing facility is in Finley,
Ohio. If you call the Kodak information number at 800-242-2424 they
can in turn give you the Kodalux Lab number. From them you can get the
proceedures for Fed-Exing or Express Mailing the film back and forth. I hope
this is timely enough to be of some help.

 the place is
	Pro Photo 381-3886
	307 East Carson Street

Go downtown via Parkwway cross the Smithfield bridge, turn left, then
drive 3 blocks, the place is on the left side. Or drive from Oakland
over to the South Side and drive down East Carson Street almost all the
way to the end (3 blocks before Station Square). Parking is tricky,
but you should manage, because you are only dropping off the slides.

The slides are ready in 2 hours, if you bring them in at the
following times: 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm or 2:30 pm
