Laurel Highlands River Tours is a good outfit for whitewater rafting
on the Upper Yough. There are several different rafting outfits in
Ohiopyle, and there are several different sections of various rivers
nearby to raft down. The "Lower Yough" (the part of the Youghigheny
(sp?) below the falls at Ohiopyle) is a fairly standard route with
fairly mild rapids. After we took this trip a few times, we wanted
something more exciting. The "Upper Yough" section, which is all in
Maryland, offers class 4 and 5 rapids (on a scale of 1 to 6). Laurel
Highlands River Tours uses self-bailing rafts and puts a guide in
each. Our three guides were competent and interesting. We picked
this outfit because it was the cheapest (about $100/person), but they
didn't skimp on anything. 1-800-472-3846.
