Recorded books, talks, short stories, etc. (mostly abridged, sadly) can be
checked out free of charge from the Oakland branch of the Carnegie Public
Library (in the popular reading room).  They have a bunch of stuff, but its
not a very appealing collection compared with Books on Tape, for example.
All of the below places rent or sell recorded books or similar material;
I've personally been very happy with Books on Tape, they've really got their
act together (but they are a bit expensive).
