Subject: stereo stores

I solicited recommendations for stereo places. This is the compilation:

My opinions:
Sun TV and Applicance and Silo are the cheapest, but you're really
gambling with the service personel - one guy at Silo couldn't
get a receiver to work, and tried pushing EVERY botton, no
joke, trying to get sound. Some of them TWICE!
World-Wide Stereo - a bit higher end, competent, friendly, and
		patient guys. I recommend them.

Others' opinions:

Andrew Tompkins-

Audio Options in Squirrel Hill carries a small number of carefully chosen
products (electronics and speakers). The guy is very honest and helpful --
if you called him and told him the price range you're interested in, he'd
tell you whether or not he could offer anything.

Audio Junction in Dormont Village sometimes has good prices on stuff, and
some second-hand equipment too. (if they're still around).

Audio Gallery at Shady and Forbes carries high-end stuff, and they're really
hard to deal with, but maybe worth a look.

Listening Post in Shadyside is pretty similar to world-wide stereo, I think.

There's a place in Wexford called Audio <something> -- they're only slightly
more arrogant than your average cardiac surgeon, which puts them way ahead of
Audio Gallery.

But Audio Options is the only one I'd really recommend. You can get the
number from the phone book, or stop by -- the store is on Forbes between
Murray and Shady, through that little doorway that houses the Caribbean
restaurant, up the stairs and down the corridor. There's a sign on the
street -- if you go to Dollar Bank and start walking towards Shady, it's a
little ways down on your right.

For mid-fi equipment, I've had good luck with
  The Listening Post in Monroeville
Butch's Sound Shack in Natrona Heights

For hi-end equipment I like
The Audio Gallery in Squirrel Hill

If you just want to go out and buy one cheap try Silo and Sun. The trick
to these places is to find a model which is on sale at one place and go
to the competitor and get them to undercut the price. Since both places
guarantee they will not be undersold this is rather easy. I'd reccomend
checking Sun first to get the price since Sile tends to have better
service and such things once you own the equipment.
