Sylvia,

The places I know of are the following.

Pittsburgh Dance Alloy (421-9747)
Squirrel Hill (Solway St, in the old Wightman School)
Sheila Hart Kleiman is an excellent teacher for beginners,
and teaches Vaganova (Russian) technique. Russian technique
is widely repected but not widely used in America. I took
classes with her for a year and then moved on to the PBT.

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre
Downtown (Allies Blvd & Wood St.)
Again, very good teaching, but in the standard Ceccheti
(Italian) technique. I've been taking the 6 week summer
session there since July 13 and I'm quite pleased. The
classes there are probably the best in the area (as they
should be, or the PBT should be mighty ashamed), but you
pay more accordingly.

Melodia Performing Arts Center
I have no personal experience with this place, but others
tell me the classes there are good.

Point Park College
Across the street from the PBT.
Again, I have no personal experience aside from a single
master class, but I've heard good things about Paddy Toan,
the Ballet teacher there. This place also has a performing
group, The American Dance Ensemble. I believe this is the
largest Ballet pump in Pittsburgh.

Hope all this can be of some help.
