I bought the bulk of my system ~3K$ in LA, a good place for audio fanatics. In Pgh the best prices are mail order (1), and the Sound Store (2). The Sound Store has good stuff but unducated staff and strange availability. Wander Audio recently folded and good riddance! There is a supposedly good stereo store mentioned in the Guide to Living in Pittsburgh, but I haven't visited there yet. For shopping and evaluating components I strongly suggest that you visit New York or LA if at all feasible. You don't have to buy there, but you will find large selections, capable salespeople, and competitive prices to help you make an evaluation. By the way, you shouldn't pay more than 70% of list price for anything, and <60% is possible if you can haggle. This doesn't really apply in Pittsburgh where there is almost no competition for stereo sales. Good luck! Marc
