Results of the Great Travel Agent Search:

Two firms were recommended by multiple people who had used them
extensively, with good results and no horror stories from anyone:

World Wise Travel, whose main office is off in Dormont somewhere, but
which has a little satellite office in the basement of Skibo that is
open on Weekday afternoons. (It wasn't open today when I stopped by,
  however.)

Shadyside Travel, on Walnut Street. (Sally Weigler is especially
  recommended.)

The following two agencies were each recommended by one person who has
used them extensively and is happy with them:

A-1 Adventure Travel in Mount Lebanon (but they deliver tickets to CMU).

University Travel on Forbes. (Cheryl is especially recommended.)

Several other agencies were mentioned favorably, but by people who had
never tried to do anything at all complex. Several people told of
errors and difficulties when using People's Travel.
