Allen, Brown and Duggan (of Allen and Assoc.) are wonderful! I have been
going to them since 1985. They are pretty busy, but will take you
immediately in an emergency and they act like they could stay and chat with
you all day if you had concerns that would take that long. They assume that
the women that they treat are intelligent and they treat them that way.

I know this name isn't on your list. I had an appointment
with Terry at the CMU Student Health Office. She was very
gentle and kind. She explained everything and tried to keep
me calm (not a terribly easy task).

About doctors on the list you have posted--Dr. Mcintyre-Seltman is no longer
in the Pittsburgh area. When I called to try to make an appointment with
her, I was told that she had moved to Virginia.

An OB/GYN that I like is Dr. Paul Cervone, who works with Dr. Cynthia Gray
at West Penn Hospital. The number is 621-1177. Dr. Gray is not on the
"approved provider" list, but I have found everyone in her office to be
quite professional and quite nice.

Good luck.

David:
As per your bbs post, Brown, Allen, and Duggan are considered to be
one of the better ob/gyn. in Pittsburgh. My wife who is a health professional
has been using these doctors for a number of years. Dr. Brown delivered my
first son while Dr. Duggan delivered my second son. Both my wife and I are
impressed with their practice.
						Good luck!

I would highly recommend the group of doctors Allen, Birrell, Brown, Duggan,
Sofranoff. They are all very warm and caring and they are always
available for the patient. What I liked the most aboout them was that
they were very reluctant to use medical intervention during pregnancy
and during the birth of the child. We know at least 5 more couples who were
very happy with them.

I have been using Dr. Thomas Allen and Associates. The group practice
include Drs. Allen, James Brown, Pierce Soffronoff (Dr. James Duggan has
left the group and joined another goup practice. I am not sure if Dr.
Soffronoff has left, too). If you choose this one, three doctors will take
turns to see your wife. This may make the visits less personal. My doctors
have been Drs. Allen, Brown and Duggan. They are competent, nice, warm, and
patient to answer questions. Sometimes (especially in late mornings) they
will be very busy, and you may end up waiting for an hour before it's your
turn to see the doctor (so it's a good idea to always have your appointments
in early mornings). This is the only thing that has bothered me, but in
general I am satisfied with them.

BTW, you may want to check out if the doctors you choose do their lab work
in their office, in a lab, or in a hospital. Since Blue Cross and Blue
Shield allow $500/year for diagnostic service done in doctors' offices and
in hospitals, respectively ($1000 total), if your doctor sends all the lab
work to a hospital, you will have only $500 allowance. Anything exceeding
that amount will be covered partially by the Major Medical Plan (80%). Dr.
Allen's group have most of the lab work done at Magee Women's Hospital (they
are all affiliated with Magee).

Good luck to you and you wife.

I go to Lorraine Bevilaqua (on Forbes Ave. in Oakland -- 621-7575).
I recommend her highly. She's very good, friendly, and willing to explain
things (a trait I find to be annoyingly uncommon among doctors).

My wife likes Dr. Walter very much. I've had the opportunity to speak with
him a few times, too. He's been very willing to spend time discussing
concerns with us. He's also somewhat older (I'd guess late 50's), which from
our perspective is nice. Seems to be very competent and careful. They (he
and Dr. Kenkre are in practice together) also have evening hours.

Hello David,
Please let your wife know that I have had Drs. Allen, Birrell, and Brown
as my doctors for the last 10 years and they have always taken excellent
care of me. They work in a partnership so she may get any one of them for
an office visit or if she prefers, she can request which one she will see.
They have always answered my questions and given me as much time as I've
needed to understand the answers. For simple problems they are willing to
talk to you over the phone rather than make you come in to the office (many
doctors around here wouldn't even think of doing that.) They make every
effort to see you immediately if you are in pain or having a real problem;
they have one or two nurse practitioners on staff to handle the overflow
if all the doctors are booked. I have had two minor operations over the
last N years, both done by Dr. Brown. Both times I recovered quickly and
without complication. Finally, their support staff is very helpful and
curtious (which means a lot when you're terrified of doctors like I am -
okay so I'm a wimp.) Anyway I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Cindy
