Dear Bovik,

I needed to see a periodontist recently after having developed a gum
abscess.

After doing some research, I concluded that, for now, scaling and root
planing is what I need. And Dr. Steven Uretsky (Murray Ave., Squirrel
Hill) is who I went. He is probably competent. But does not seem to
have patience to answer questions. Even though I don't particularly
like health professionals that do not seem to like aswering my
questions, I ended up going there because the procedure is simple,
and, location-wise, is convenient.

I would probably have gone to Dr. Mark Weingarden, if it was something
more serious, or if I needed more information/education about my
case.

Enclosed are some recommendations that I got.

	Hi,

I recently moved away from Pittsburgh, but I'd been seeing
Dr. Mark Weingarden in Allison Park for more than a decade and have
been very happy with him. He took the time to explain exactly what
was going on with my gum and jaw problems, in terms that I could
understand. And when I asked him about procedures suggested by other
doctors he was quite effective at pointing out the potential
benefits, problems and costs with each method. He is one of the few
doctors I've encountered who was willing to treat me as an
intelligent patient, not just an unthinking patient who'll do
whatever the doctor says.

The only downside is that his office is not cheap; I've
returned for bi-annual cleanings and have had to pay around $71 each
visit, visits during which I rarely got to see him for more than a
minute. But whenever there were problems (and I had gum surgery
there twice) he spent as much time as I needed to feel comfortable
with the procedure. I've never met a more effective physician.

His phone number is 487-8288, and his office is about a 30
minute drive from CMU, north on route 8 in Allison Park. It seems
like a long haul, but it's thanks to him that I learned my gums
didn't have to bleed all the time.

Sorry for that last imagery :-), I don't think I can
recommend him any more highly.

				Mark M.
